A dark red sunburst Gibson A-4 mandolin with original hard case. The FON number is 11150 and the serial # is 49505, indicating the instrument was made and shipped in 1918. The pickguard is missing. The tuning machines, bridge, and tailpiece are original factory parts. The finish is also original and in excellent condition, with the exception of some scratches on the edges of the top, on the bass and treble sides. There is some scarring in front of the bridge due to misplacement of the bridge. There are no additional finish issues on the body. The back of the neck also shows some wear to the finish due to the fact that the instrument was played a lot over its 99 year life.
This mandolin has a straight neck and low action. It is easy to play and has a strong, punchy sound with lots of volume.
