A beautiful 1917 Gibson F-4 mandolin in 100% original condition. This is the nicest F-4 mandolin we have had in our 45 years of business. The dark red sunburst finish has a beautiful patina that one loves to see on a 100-year old varnished instrument.
This is a crack-free mandolin. It has a straight neck, original frets, and original parts including the beautiful Handel tuner buttons, double flowerpot abalone and pearl headstock inlay, and an authentic tortoise elevated pickguard. The original hard shell case is included.
The Gibson F-4 mandolin was the top of the line mandolin in its day, and this 100-year-old F-4 is the nicest one we've ever had or seen. The FON # is 3639, implying that production started in very late 1916. The serial number on the label inside the soundhole is 38112, indicating it was shipped in 1917. It plays great, sounds wonderful, and we should all look so good after 100 years! The mandolin has no dings or scratches on the body that penetrate the finish to the wood. There is moderate flaming on the two-piece back and beautiful distinct flame on the sides.
