A beautiful guitar in excellent condition. The burgundy finish has faded to a brown but the finish on the body has no checking, and there is only 1 ding that penetrates the finish to the wood. It is located at the edge of the back near the end block and strap button (see photo). Other than this ding, none of the tiny surface scratches show up in the photos we took. The finish is in 9 out of 10 condition and is all original. The fake f-holes are painted on the top.
The binding around the top shows no rotting that is typical of Gretsch guitars from this era. There is minimal binding rot on a piece that runs perpendicular to the fingerboard on the heel of the neck, and a few spots on the fingerboard binding strips. We have shown this in our photos.
The width of the neck at the zero fret is 1 3/4". The original HiLo-Tron single coil pickups sound strong. The guitar weighs 7 lbs 3.9 oz.
The guitar has all original parts and hardware. The frets are original, but they have been filed in the past and are not the original height. However, the frets are in playable condition and a re-fret is not necessary at this time.
The original case is in great structural condition, with all hardware intact and working. The hinged side of the case is missing it's covering, however. A photo of this is included.
A very nice example of a 61 year old Gretsch 6119. I have never seen one from this period in nicer condition.
