Considered by many to be the holy grail of the pre-war Martins, the 1937 D-28 had the 1 3/4" width neck at the nut, the forward shifted x-braces, the bridge plate tucked under the x brace, hot hide glue used throughout, and of course the Adirondack spruce top and the Brazilian Rosewood back and sides. This guitar has all of these features, and in addition it is in like new condition.
It was ordered from Mandolin Brothers in 2006, and shipped to the current owner on 1/31/2007. I am fortunate enough to be offering it, as it has been consigned to me for sale.
The guitar has no issues; no fret wear, a straight neck, and no dings or scratches. The neck angle is good, and the bone saddle has plenty of room for adjustment.
The sound is what one would expect from a 1937 D-28. It is loud, with a tremendous bass response, strong mids, and clear highs. A great sounding guitar that is 11 years old and still in perfect condition. Included is a Cedar Creek tweed covered case that is an upgrade from the original case in which the guitar was shipped.
