1989 Thomas Humphrey Millennium Classical Guitar with hard case
Product Description
This is a near mint example of the Millennium model classical guitar built by the well known American luthier Thomas Humphrey. The Millennium was a revolutionary design, featuring an elevated fingerboard, sloped soundboard, tapered body, and a unique top bracing system. These features were intended with the idea of improving the projection, sustain, and fullness of his guitars. The elevated fingerboard allowed easier access to the upper end of the neck.
This guitar features a European Spruce top, Brazilian Rosewood back, sides, and head plate, ebony fingerboard on a Spanish Cedar neck, a French polished finish, premium Sloane tuning machines, and the original premium arch top hard shell case. The back of the neck is smooth to the touch with no finish flaws, and there is no wear to the frets. the finish is in near mint condition with just a few imperceptible scratches and dings.
Thomas Humphrey's guitars were used by many notable performers including Davis Starobin, Sergio and Odair Assad, Sharon Ibsin, Eliot Fisk, David Tannebaum, and Benjamin Verdery. Verdery lived in the apartment above Thomas Humphrey, and was one of many great guitarists who would visit Humphrey's home in New York City to try the latest batch of guitars, usually built in groups of five. This particular guitar was hand picked by Verdery for noted classical and jazz guitarist and composer Jim Ferguson, the long time editor of Guitar Player Magazine in the 1980's and early 1990's. Verdery wrote a column in Guitar Player and Ferguson was his editor and associate. Jim Ferguson is a Grammy-nominated writer, instructor, and college educator. His career has spanned both fields of classical and jazz guitar. Indeed his catalog of books and CDs is extensive, and I would encourage any aspiring classical or jazz guitarist to take a look at his website, Fergusonguitar.com. Ferguson has consigned this beautiful guitar for me to sell on his behalf.
